Trust30 prompts: Personal Recipe by Harley Schreiber

I do not wish to expiate, but to live. My life is for itself and not for a spectacle. I much prefer that it should be of a lower strain, so it be genuine and equal, than that it should be glittering and unsteady. I wish it to be sound and sweet, and not to need diet and bleeding. – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Think about the type of person you’d NEVER want to be 5 years from now. Write out your own personal recipe to prevent this from happening and commit to following it. “Thought is the seed of action.”

What is my nightmare?

Earlier this year, I was seriously concerned that in five years time what I’d be is dead. But the black dog isn’t howling in my ears so much anymore, and I believe I can keep it at bay.

So assuming that we’re talking about my life in 5 years’ time, this is who I really, really don’t want to be:

I don’t want to be a corporate drone. I don’t want to give up on my own ideas, my own plans.

That, more than anything else, is the nightmare. The endless, grey, banal nightmare.
